Mara Keisling (born September 29, 1959 in Scranton, Pennsylvania) is an American transgender rights activist and founding executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, based in Washington, DC.〔 She is a trans woman who started transitioning in her 40s. A couple of years later, Keisling created the National Center for Transgender Equality to advocate for transgender rights in the United States. ==Early life and education== One of seven siblings, Keisling grew up in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
